Cyclopsitta is a genus of birds belonging to the Psittaculidae family and the Loriini tribe.
Description[]
Holyoak (1970a) points out that Opopsitta [Cyclopsitta] and Psittaculirostris stand apart from other parrots having the entoglossum (a hyoid bone) deeply grooved and in having the processes of the parahyoid bone only narrowly jointed and not projected forward.[1][2] He also stated that the two genera should not be separated.
The members of this genus are small, stocky parrots with extremely short, rounded tails.[1] The bill is proportionally large and broad.[1]
Distribution[]
They are found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and tropical Australia.
Taxonomy[]
The two species were formerly placed in the genus Opopsitta.[1]
It contains two species:
- Orange-breasted Fig-Parrot, (Cyclopsitta gulielmitertii)
- Double-eyed Fig-Parrot, (Cyclopsitta diophthalma)
