The Orange-bllied Parrot, Neophema chryogaster, is a species of parrot. There are only about 35-50 left.

Other names


Male is rich grass-green above. Broad blue frontal band to eye. Deep violet-blue in wing. Face, throat, breast greenish-yellow; yellow abdomen with variable orange centre [2].

Female is duller [2].

Juvenile has an olive head, neck and breast [2].

Similar species

The other species lack the orange on its breast.




Its alarm calls are buzz-buzz [2].


Breeds in Tasmania in open forest copses in heath [2].


Winters in mainland coastal saltmarsh, dunes and damp grasslands [2].
