A bird's rump

An example of the rump in a domestic cockatiel.

The area between a bird's back and the base of its upper tail. It can be partly or completely hidden when a bird is perched or on the ground when with its wings folded. In many species it's sometimes a different colour than the rest of the plumage [1].
