This species of loon is 30–35 in (76–89 cm) long.[1] The breeding plumage of this species is like that of the Common Loon, but the white spots are fewer and larger. The very large, pale upturned yellow bill makes this species distinctive.[1]

Similar species

See above. Red-throated Loon is much smaller, paler and greyer.[1]
